Chapter 5 - THE NIGHT OF THE WAREHOUSE

Arthur Bell had not planned to flee until the following morning.

Vanessa’s message changed everything.

He left the restaurant through a rear entrance and drove toward an

industrial district near the river. Marcus’s team followed at a

distance.

At the mansion, Rachel sat beside Lily, trying to keep her hands from

shaking.

Lily was coloring a picture of a white flower.

“Mommy?”

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“Is Uncle Gabe going to find Daddy’s bad people?”

Rachel looked at the drawing.

“I think he’s going to find out what happened.”

“Then Daddy can be remembered properly.”

Rachel kissed her hair.

“Yes.”

A call came from Marcus.

“Arthur is heading to the old warehouse.”

Rachel went still.

“That’s where Daniel died.”

Gabriel, listening on the same secure line, answered immediately.

“Don’t let him enter alone. Call the police. We have enough evidence to

request immediate assistance.”

Marcus confirmed.

The warehouse had been closed since the night of the attack. Its outer

walls were stained by smoke, and the loading doors were chained.

Arthur entered through a side gate.

He did not know that the police were already on their way.

Gabriel arrived with Marcus and two security officers. They stayed

outside the main building until the officers took positions.

Arthur emerged carrying a metal case.

“Arthur!” Gabriel called.

The older man froze.

For a moment, he looked almost relieved.

“Gabriel. I was hoping you’d come.”

“Put the case down.”

Arthur gave a bitter smile.

“You always were sentimental.”

“Daniel trusted you.”

“Daniel was a fool.”

Gabriel’s expression hardened.

“He was better than either of us.”

Arthur laughed.

“He was going to destroy the company. He wanted to hand everything to

federal investigators. He thought he could walk away clean.”

“He wanted to stop you stealing from it.”

“I built those accounts. I found the investors. I kept your empire alive

while you played king.”

“You stole from the people who worked for us.”

“I took what I deserved.”

“And Daniel?”

Arthur’s face changed.

“He wouldn’t listen.”

Gabriel took one step forward.

“Did you order the attack?”

Arthur looked at the warehouse doors.

“I told the driver to stop him. That’s all.”

“Did you know there were people inside?”

Arthur said nothing.

A police officer moved closer.

“Mr. Bell, put the case down and show us your hands.”

Arthur turned suddenly and ran toward the loading bay. He slipped on the

wet concrete, fell hard, and the metal case burst open.

Documents scattered across the ground.

Officers restrained him.

Inside the case were passports, cash, encrypted storage devices, and a

list of payments to the subcontractors involved in the warehouse attack.

The evidence connected Arthur directly to the plan.

Gabriel stood beneath the rain, staring at the building where Daniel had

died.

Marcus approached.

“It’s over for him, boss.”

Gabriel shook his head.

“It’s not over for Daniel’s family.”

He looked at the warehouse doors.

“We still owe him the truth.”
